According to the forecast, this will have been the windiest day, it was a moderate base wind with awesome gusts to get going. Mostly I focus on Course racing, so this was a chance to develop some freestlye skills. A great lunch was provided by the club.
In the morning, I was on one of my smallest boards, a JP Young Gun 70 litre, however when teamed up with a Tushingham Edge 4.7 Demo Kit, it got going in the gusts. As it is a low literage board, I found this a good opportunity to practise tacks and gybes as it forced me to have good balance or I would have ended up swimming (which I did a bit!). This could then be carried over to Techno to improve technique. Sam was a great help out on the water giving me hints, tips and demonstrating the moves!
In the afternoon, the wind picked up and we started doing some more freestyle moves. I was working on Jumps and Slam Gybes. It was great fun, yet quite challenging. From the Slam Gybes and Jumps they can be combined to start performing Aerial Gybes. We finished the day with a friendly team relay competition, which involved going to a mark and doing a freestyle move on the way there or on the way back. Our team came second!!
